At Ingeldene, a residential service in Ramsey on the Isle of Man, Team Leader Vicki and resident Geoff are part of a vibrant community where fun, independence, and connection shape everyday life.
A Home Filled with Joy and Belonging
Vicki has worked in care for around ten years and currently supports four residents at Ingeldene. She describes the atmosphere as “chilled and relaxed”, where laughter and companionship are part of the daily routine.
“It’s easy with these guys,” she says. “I enjoy supporting them, taking them to day services, having fun around the house, dancing, and singing.”
When Geoff moved into Ingeldene in August 2024, he quickly made it his home. Though he values his own space, he’s embraced every opportunity to get involved – both in the house and in the wider community.
Community, Connection and Creating Memories
Geoff’s weekly routine is full of activities that promote independence and joy. He attends Balleysleih Day Service, goes swimming, enjoys picnics, and regularly heads out shopping. A sociable and easy-going character, Geoff also loves a good pub visit – playing pool and darts and enjoying a pint with friends.
At home, he takes pride in contributing to household tasks like doing the washing and helping with groceries. These everyday responsibilities have helped him build confidence and a real sense of ownership in his life at Ingeldene.
When he’s relaxing, Geoff can often be found gaming on his PlayStation or watching his favourite TV show, Heartbeat. A big music fan, he’s also known for his dance moves – especially his impressive moonwalk!
Being from the Isle of Man, Geoff has a strong connection to the local culture. He’s passionate about motorbikes and the TT races, particularly the sidecars. During the most recent TT, Geoff was thrilled to don a marshal’s uniform and wave the flag – a proud moment he still talks about.

Vicki’s Journey into Care
Vicki’s path into social care wasn’t a traditional one. “I was a bingo caller for 14 and a half years,” she explains. “When we hosted charity bingo, we often had people with learning disabilities come along. Supporting them through those evenings was one of the reasons I decided to change my job and start working in care.”
Since joining Praxis Care, Vicki has never looked back. She says some of her most memorable moments have come from supporting residents on holidays.
“I’ve taken Joanne to Blackpool a few times and she’s just loved it. Seeing the residents’ faces when they go on holiday and how different they are is just so amazing.”
For Vicki, it’s the small, everyday moments that matter most. “It’s about changing their lives for the better – getting residents out more, helping them connect with family, and just seeing them happy. That’s what I love.”
Advice for Future Care Workers
When asked what she’d say to someone thinking about joining the sector, Vicki doesn’t hesitate:
When asked for advice for someone considering a career in care, Vicki’s message is clear – “Give it a go! I’ve never looked back from supporting you lot! It’s a very, very rewarding job.”
