The Challenges of Caring for a Child with Complex Needs
For Glynn and Karen Brown, parents of Aaron, the journey to finding the right support for their son has been filled with challenges — but also hope.
From a very young age, they noticed Aaron was different.
“He had a hard time communicating, engaging with others, and understanding the world around him. When he was diagnosed with severe autism and learning disabilities, it felt like a heavy burden to carry. As parents it was overwhelming to hear those words about our child, but it was also a reality we had to face.”
As Aaron grew older, his behaviour became more difficult to manage. He began experiencing distress and aggressive outbursts, which were incredibly hard for the family. In time, Aaron was admitted to hospital.
“The decision was not one we made lightly – leaving Aaron was one of the most painful things we’ve ever done. We thought we were doing what was best for him, but it soon became clear that it wasn’t the right environment.”
Unfortunately, Aaron continued to struggle in hospital, and his parents became increasingly concerned for his wellbeing.
A Remarkable Transformation
Aaron’s transition to Praxis Care marked a turning point. He began in a shared care setting, and today he lives in his own home with support from the Praxis Care team.
“The transformation has been remarkable. With the support of Praxis Care, Aaron is calmer, happier and more settled. He’s now able to spend weekends with us at home, which is something we cherish as a family.”

They didn’t rush things, they introduced him gradually to his new environment and the staff, making sure he felt comfortable and safe. The difference it has made is incredible. While in hospital, Aaron was often agitated and needed heavy medication to manage his behaviour. But in the supportive, individualised environment at Praxis Care, those episodes have reduced significantly.”
