Northern Ireland Volunteers Celebrated On U.N. International Volunteer Day At Crumlin Gaol

Praxis Care hosted a volunteer recognition event in Crumlin Road Gaol coinciding with the United Nations International Volunteer Day. This was the first such volunteer event since 2019 following the lifting of COVID restrictions.

Nineteen volunteers from a range of our locations in Ballymoney, Carrickfergus and Belfast were presented with certificates of gratitude by Greer Wilson, Director of Care and Development.

“Much of what we do for the people we support relies heavily on our volunteers,” said Mr Wilson. “We are indebted to you for your continued commitment and for the real contribution you make to improving the lives of those we care for.”

The Young Person’s Befriending Service within the Northern Health and Social Care Trust celebrates 20 years of operations in 2022. Praxis’s Volunteer Co-ordinator Jan Simm has worked at the service since it started. At the event, Ms. Simm presented volunteer Joanne Murray with a long-service gift.

“Joanne is a fantastic volunteer who injects humour and fun into the befriending relationship,” said Ms Simm. “Social workers have noticed a massive difference in the young person she spends time with in regards to confidence and self- esteem.”
