Older people and Dementia Accommodation and Support Services
Service User, Stanley, has lived with Praxis Care for six years. Here he shares his journey in a Praxis Care supported Dementia accommodation scheme:
“I came to Praxis Care around 6 years ago. Before that I was living in a nursing home where I lived in a room which had a bed, a sink, TV and a chest of drawers all in one room – it was very small!
With Praxis Care I have my own self-contained bungalow. It has a kitchen, living room, bedroom and dining room/spare room and I have to say I really enjoy living here!
I have a diagnosis of Korsakoff Syndrome and the Praxis Care staff are brilliant at supporting me. I still have my own independence living here. I make all my own meals and I still go to my local social club on a Saturday where I meet with my friends. I am an ex-service man and I have been going to the club for the past 40 years. I enjoy getting out and about and seeing my old friends. I go on my own and get a taxi to and from the club.
The Praxis Care staff do help me with my laundry and with my medication. Up until about a year ago, the staff were helping with my co-codamol but now I can take it myself, however they still order it for me every month.
There are plenty of activities to do here during the day, although sometimes I just like to stay in my house. I am very happy with Praxis Care, I am very content living here. I never feel lonely and I know there are staff here when I need them.”
