Visitors to this year’s Balmoral Show were treated to something truly special at the Praxis Care stand, where the organisation’s Conlig service sold out of home-grown plants and handmade bakes—raising approximately £4,000 in support of adults with learning disabilities.
The vibrant stand, run by staff and people supported by Praxis Care at its Conlig day service, showcased weeks of preparation and dedication. From freshly baked treats to carefully nurtured plants, every item was made with care and purpose. The proceeds will go directly back into the service to fund future wellbeing activities, skills programmes, and social outings.
Adding to the excitement was a special appearance by Julie Fitzpatrick-Curry, well-known for her standout performance on Come Dine With Me. Julie spent time chatting with staff and people supported by Praxis Care, drawing crowds and spreading joy with her trademark warmth and humour.
All funds raised will be reinvested directly into supporting wellbeing activities, outings, and meaningful programmes for adults with learning disabilities,
“We were absolutely blown away by the support we received,” says Colin Fullerton, Manager of Conlig Day Service. “To completely sell out is incredible. The people we support were at the heart of this effort—it took months of their work, from planting and baking to serving customers—and we’re so proud of everything they achieved.”
The Balmoral Show stand also served as an opportunity to highlight the work of Praxis Care, Northern Ireland’s largest registered charity providing care and support for people with learning disabilities, autism, mental ill health and dementia. With over 1,500 people supported across the UK and Ireland, events like Balmoral allow the organisation to showcase the talents and contributions of those it supports.
Julie Fitzpatrick-Curry added, “It was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with Praxis Care. The energy, the effort, and the kindness at this stand were incredible. I’m so proud to be a part of it.”
