Praxis Care, a leading charity supporting people with mental ill health, learning disabilities and autism, has proudly hosted its inaugural Sports Day at St Peregrine’s GAA Club, a landmark community event that brought together people supported by our Mulhuddart, Clongriffin, and Dunboyne services, alongside families, staff, and local supporters.
The day was enriched by the presence of Senator Emer Currie, TD Paul Donnelly, and Councillor Tom Kitt, who joined the celebrations and showed their support for inclusive community initiatives.
Food and refreshments were generously provided by local businesses, with the Burgers Only van serving up crowd-pleasing meals, and M3 Garage and Spar Mulhuddart donating free snacks and drinks to keep energy levels high throughout the day.

The driving force behind the event was Praxis Care colleague, Austin Kavanagh, whose vision was to create more than just a day of sport:
“This was never just about games. It was about breaking down barriers, building connections, and showing that people with learning disabilities and autism are an essential part of our community.”
He added:
“I love seeing our guys out in the community – because it is their community. They deserve to be seen and valued as equal members, not hidden away or treated differently. Events like this make that reality visible.”
From fun activities to team games, the atmosphere was filled with laughter, energy, and a real sense of unity. The Sports Day not only celebrated ability and participation but also shone a light on the value of diversity and belonging in our local communities.
Senator Emer Currie said:
“Praxis Care continues to make a real difference in the lives of young adults in our community with autism and intellectual disabilities. Today’s event is another example of their commitment to inclusion and participation – values they champion every single day. We need more services like Praxis Care across the country, and more events like this that bring families and communities together.”

Paul Donnelly TD commented:
“It was a lovely event and even better that it was facilitated in my GAA club, St Peregrines. I was delighted to get to chat to parents and service users. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with service users to discuss local and national politics before and over the next few weeks I’ll be dropping in to answer any questions on the presidential election. It was wonderful to see the smiling faces of everyone and it’s a testament to the brilliant work of the Praxis Care staff.”
Praxis Care extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the event, from local businesses to community leaders, and looks forward to making Sports Day an annual highlight in the calendar.
