Conlig Day Services celebrated its 30th anniversary last month with a lively event at its centre in Conlig, Co. Down. The celebration event brought together attendees, staff and families for a fun-filled day of music, food and entertainment.

Guests enjoyed a barbecue, celebration cake and sweet treats, and a performance from magician Trevor Price, who wowed the audience with tricks involving attendees, staff and families throughout his performance.
Over the past three decades, more than 50 people have been supported by Conlig Day Services. The service, which currently supports 26 people, has provided personalised support for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health challenges. Staff help attendees develop skills, build confidence, and enjoy a welcoming social environment. The service offers a variety of activities, including the Cookie Company, where attendees develop baking skills, and the public gardens, which they care for and maintain. These projects provide meaningful ways for attendees to learn new skills, take part in hands-on work, and enjoy a social environment.

A highlight of the day was the presentation of commemorative plaques to six long-standing attendees who have been with the service since it opened in 1995:
- Aidan Hession
- Alan Campbell
- Colin Drummond
- Eddie Burrows
- Harry Chambers
- Kenny Gettingby

Greer Wilson, Director of Care for Northern Ireland commented:
“It’s a real honour to mark 30 years of Conlig Day Services and to recognise the people who have been with us since the very beginning. Presenting these plaques was a privilege and a reminder of the lasting impact this service has had on so many lives. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our staff and the support of the local community, who have been part of the journey every step of the way.”
Attendees shared their personal experiences:
“I am delighted to receive this award! I didn’t realise I would get anything today,” said Aidan Hession.
“I enjoy working in the gardens at Conlig, meeting new people, and having a bit of craic with the team,” said Kenny Gettingby, reflecting on his three decades at the service.
