Praxis Care Joins Isle Of Man Strategic Partnership On Homelessness

A strategic partnership has been formed between Praxis Care, the Isle of Man Salvation Army, Housing Matters and the Isle of Man Government to collaboratively produce and oversee the implementation of a homelessness strategy on the Island.

The strategic partnership will see the charities work with the Housing and Communities Board to put together a strategy for addressing homelessness, including an action plan with objectives the Strategic Partnership will deliver over the coming year.

People experiencing homelessness or those ‘sofa surfing’ will have many different reasons for doing so and can relate to illness, trauma, addiction, or everyday problems that make maintaining housing difficult. The strategy will ensure there is a framework to address all of the issues, as well as any immediate housing need.

The Chair of the Housing and Communities Board, Chris Thomas MHK said:

“This long term approach will ensure those who are vulnerable can be offered support that is tailored to their individual need. This has been an aspiration of the Board and I welcome the formation of the Strategic Partnership to bring forward a homelessness strategy and give this matter the focus it deserves.”

Richard Broughton, Praxis Care’s Director of Care and Development for the Isle of Man and Great Britain, said:

“We will bring our knowledge, experience and passion to the project, working with all of the strategic partners to help reduce causes of poor mental health by preventing homelessness and enabling housing related support for vulnerable people on Island.

We see this as core to our charitable mission and look forward to helping make a sustainable positive difference in our community.”
