Special Visit for Tenants at St Paul’s Court

The residents of St Paul’s Court had a brilliant surprise at their fun day when a John Deere tractor arrived.

The residents at St Paul’s Court supported living service, in Lisburn, had a fantastic time during their fun day. Manager Karen Ford reached out to Johnston Gilpin & Co. who generously agreed to drive a brand new John Deere tractor down to the scheme. The staff and residents were delighted to see the tractor arrive.

Our service at St Paul’s Court Choice Housing and the South Eastern HSC Trust is for elderly tenants with dementia. The staff regularly look for creative ways to give tenants opportunities to have fun, energise their minds and spark memories of their youth.

Matthew, the staff member at Johnston Gilpin & Co. who came down, expressed that he was overjoyed to have been asked down. He enjoyed getting to know residents and loved hearing the interesting stories many had to tell of their youth and experience with farming.

Karen stated that her reason for arranging the fun day was;

“To exercise the minds of those who use our services. A lot of the residents are living with various stages of dementia and it’s important that we involve them in activities that keep their minds stimulated.”

“Bringing the tractor down sparked conversation between staff and residents. It encouraged them to have discussions about their past memories and lives that they probably would not have brought up or thought about otherwise.”
